For six months it seemed as though things couldn't get any better for the fans of Hull City AFC. With a local lad managing his local team, the 2011/12 season had ended just short of a play-off place and fans were looking forward to progression the following season under Nick Barmby.
The foundations had of course been laid by a former manager who departed midway through the campaign but the team and their rookie boss carried their quest for promotion right through until the final month of the season when, unfortunately they would fall agonisingly short
